Sulpice Debauve, pharmacist of the King Louis XVI, opened in 1800 with his nephew, Mr. Gallais, a chocolate factory whose quickly rising fame made it the appointed supplier of the Kings Louis XVIII, Charles X and Louis-Philippe. In those times, an establishment approved by the King’s house was the best guaranties of quality.
The flagship store that still stands at Rue des Saints-Pères for almost 200 years is inscribed in the French Historic Monument List.
